FIRST Robotics Scholarship
Harvey Mudd is proud to award one FIRST Robotics scholarship to an incoming first-year student who has participated in a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) in high school or FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). Competitive candidates will be able to show not just leadership in their FIRST Robotics experience but an attention to mentoring newer members and leaving a legacy for their FIRST program.
For students entering in the Fall of 2025 and after, the value of this scholarship is $27,183. This amount was chosen by a generous donor because it is a multiple of Euler’s number, or e, a special and irrational fundamental constant in engineering, physics and math.
The scholarship will be automatically renewed at the end of a student’s first year. It will be renewed thereafter, provided the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at the end of the student’s second and third years. Renewal of the award is contingent upon eight consecutive semesters of full-time enrollment, with the exception of study abroad or an approved leave of absence.
To apply for the scholarship, submit the online FIRST Robotics Scholarship Application by February 1. You must log in to the HMC Applicant Hub to access and submit this form, which requires that we have received your first-year application.
Required Scholarship Statement
Please describe your participation in FIRST Robotics as well as how FIRST has helped shape your interest in STEM. Given Harvey Mudd’s emphasis on collaboration rather than competition, we are interested in how your view of teamwork was affected by this experience.
- Limit your response to 550 words.
- Scholarship applications are read alongside your first-year application and not separately. Therefore, you can assume that the scholarship reader will have also read your other essays. It is not necessary to include the same information in both unless you choose to do so.
