We had more than 100 people attend the event today, and had around 25 current students participate as well, whether that involved giving tours, speaking as a panelist, or enjoying lunch with the prospective students and families. This is one of our biggest events during the summer, and is a great chance to meet more current students than just your tour guide. Most of the students that you will meet on Discovery Day are one of the 200 students who are at Mudd for the summer, working on research, revamping certain courses, or helping out at different offices around campus (like the Office of Admission!). We invite students of all different majors and backgrounds to come and share their Mudd experiences, so that prospective students can get a much more comprehensive understanding of how HMC works from the student perspective.

Prospective students and their families chat with current students and faculty members during lunch at the Platt Campus Center.

We will have a second Discovery Day on July 14th, with registration starting at 8 AM and lunch starting at 12:30 PM. Although registration is closed online, you may walk in and register with us on the spot. It’s a super fun event, and I’ve actually met quite a number of current Mudders who said that Discovery Days was one of the things that really convinced them to further research HMC and what we’re all about.

And of course, what better way to celebrate a successful Discovery Day than grabbing some treats from our daily ice cream bike from the Dean of Students Office? Peter, the Director of Admission, paid for all of us today since he had a whole bag of quarters from the last academic year – he was telling way too many puns and jokes during meetings, so he had to put in a quarter in a jar for every pun/joke. He bought about 10 ice cream sandwiches and popsicles, which didn’t even make a visible dent in his coin stash. Thanks Peter!

We take the ice cream bike very seriously.

A big thank you to Peter and his arsenal of puns/jokes for buying us all ice cream!
