Amplifying Staff Voices

Overview

The Office of Human Resources (HR) deeply values the opportunity to engage with staff in various venues. Visit HR Programs for Staff for a complete summary/inventory of all programs available for staff engagement and participation.

Our newest HR program, which invites a small-group of staff to join HR in breakfast connection sessions, has proven to be an effective and welcoming forum for open dialogue. HR is honored to facilitate these conversations, offering a safe and inclusive space for our staff to share their insights and concerns.

Key Takeaways from HR Breakfast Connection Sessions

Through recent HR Breakfast Connection sessions, one message has come through clearly: staff deeply value recognition, meaningful work, and a sense of community. To sustain engagement and foster a thriving workplace culture, staff have asked the College to continue strengthening efforts in three key areas:

  • Professional development opportunities
  • Enhanced communication around how benefit decisions are made at HMC, along with a desire for ongoing assessment of the College’s benefits offerings
  • Cross-campus relationships between staff and faculty

HR is pleased to serve as a conduit between staff and College leadership, helping to communicate concerns and aspirations, collaborating on improvements to systems and practices, and ensuring that feedback is acknowledged and thoughtfully addressed. Through transparent communication and ongoing collaboration, we aim to foster a workplace culture rooted in respect and continuous improvement.

Summary of Key Themes and Questions Raised

The conversations held during the Breakfast Connection sessions have been deeply insightful. Upon reflection, it became evident that establishing a follow-up mechanism to address the comments and questions raised during these gatherings would be highly valuable.

In response, feedback from the sessions was thoughtfully synthesized, without attribution, and shared with College leadership to support the development of meaningful responses and communication with staff. This initiative represents a significant step in amplifying staff voices, and Human Resources remains committed to continuously refining and enhancing the process.
