HR Programs for Staff

Community Building

HMC Staff Conversations

This quarterly meeting series provides an open forum for sharing important College updates, gathering feedback and fostering meaningful staff engagement. We believe regular conversations are essential to a thriving campus community, and these sessions offer a consistent opportunity to hear updates, ask questions and share insights on College initiatives and policies.

HR Breakfast Connections

These monthly events offer a welcoming space where employees can connect with HR, share feedback and engage in open conversation about workplace experiences. Our goal is to create a welcoming and engaging environment that encourages dialogue and helps us better understand the needs and perspectives of our campus community. These sessions will be small enough to support open conversation and large enough to bring in a range of ideas and experiences.

HR Events

These monthly events foster community, connection and appreciation among staff and faculty by offering opportunities to gather informally, celebrate one another and spread kindness. Through activities like coffee socials, recognition events and seasonal gatherings, HR aims to cultivate a positive and supportive workplace culture.

Kudos Recognition

The annual Kudos Recognition program aims to support a culture of appreciation and employee engagement. Kudos cards offer a simple way for faculty and staff to recognize one another for everyday contributions that reflect our shared values. By encouraging peer-to-peer recognition, the program helps build a more connected, positive and appreciative workplace.

Professional Development Training

HR Training

These ongoing events provide professional development and support for employees, offering opportunities to build practical skills and make informed decisions. From enhancing public speaking confidence to understanding retirement benefits with TIAA, each session is designed to empower staff in both their careers and personal lives.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning serves as a powerful e-learning resource for benefit-eligible staff, supporting continuous professional growth and career development. With access to over 21,000 expert-led courses across technical, business, soft skills and wellness topics, staff can learn at their own pace, earn certifications and build the knowledge needed to succeed in their current roles and beyond.

Lunch & Learns

These summer lunch and learn events bring our colleagues together, strengthen our community connections and offer a chance to relax and enjoy each other’s company outside of our regular work environments. These events support employee engagement by combining informative sessions with opportunities for community connection. Topics such as financial wellness, effective communication and budget planning are paired with casual gatherings and food trucks to create an accessible and inclusive learning environment.

Optum Training

These ongoing sessions are part of a professional development series focused on enhancing workplace effectiveness, collaboration and decision-making. By exploring topics such as time management, conflict resolution, critical thinking and team building, the series equips employees with practical tools to strengthen individual performance and contribute to a more productive and cohesive work environment.

Professional/Leadership Training via the Center for Organizational Effectiveness

These half or full-day training programs are designed to build leadership capacity and support professional growth among supervisors and staff. The Supervisors Academy provides a comprehensive, multi-part series focused on effective management practices, while the Foundations in Excellence sessions offer essential skills and strategies to foster a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous improvement across the College.

Compliance and Safety

Compliance

These annual compliance training events, delivered via Vector Solutions, promote a safe, respectful and inclusive campus environment by educating faculty, staff, and student workers on how to recognize, prevent, and respond to workplace violence and sexual harassment. They support compliance with legal requirements while reinforcing the College’s commitment to community well-being and accountability.

Safety Exercises

These annual emergency preparedness drills enhance campus safety by ensuring that all community members are familiar with critical response procedures. Through hands-on practice with evacuation, earthquake and lockdown scenarios, participants gain the awareness and confidence needed to respond effectively in real emergencies.
