Before Arrival

Summer Welcome events

• Learn valuable information for new families through our virtual Summer Welcome Series.
• Find Summer Welcome Receptions around the country and connect to Mudd families in your local area.
• Register to attend Family Orientation on August 27.

Forms and deadlines

• Complete list of all pre-arrival forms and deadlines
• Housing contracts and roommate matching forms will be available on StarRez by May 25. Your student will receive an email with instructions.
• Students should verify, update or add family contact information on the HMC Applicant Hub by June 15 so parents receive information and event invitations.

Health and insurance requirements

• All students must complete a series of online health forms through the Health Services student portal.

Move-In and Orientation

What to bring

• The Residence Hall FAQ includes information on room sizes, furniture and other items provided in each room and guidance on what your student may want to bring.
• Families may ship items ahead of arrival on campus; packages should be addressed with your student’s name and mailbox number to 340 E. Foothill Boulevard, and timed to arrive via UPS (recommended) no earlier than August 1.

Orientation Day: August 27

• Upon arrival on orientation day, check-in for students is outside the Linde Activities Center; check-in for parents and family members is inside Platt Campus Center.
• Please park in the lots directly north of the residence halls on the north side of the campus.
• Carts and/or bins will be available to help move items from car to residence hall, and support staff will be on hand to assist.

Advising and Student Success

• Students will be assigned a first-year advisor to help them navigate the Harvey Mudd core and a HSA faculty advisor in the Spring semester of their first year, as well as a faculty advisor in their major once they declare.
• The Office of Academic Resources and Student Success works collaboratively with academic departments to support students in achieving their personal, academic and professional goals. 

Support Resources

• Students who require academic accommodations should contact the Office of Accessible Education.
• Requests for accommodations may be made through the AIM portal prior to arrival on campus (requires HMC credentials).
• Computing and Information Services provides technical support and computing resources for students.

Health and Wellbeing

• Student Health Services is available for routine appointments, basic medical care and guidance about next steps when students are feeling unwell.
• Harvey Mudd’s Office of Wellbeing offers programs throughout the year that help students build connection, resilience and healthy habits.
• Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services provides mental health support to students across The Claremont Colleges.
• All students have access TimelyCare, a 24/7 telehealth option offering no-cost virtual visits for physical and mental health concerns.
• For emergency or after-hours assistance, students should contact their proctor or call Campus Safety at 909.607.2000 for referral to the on-call dean.

Billing and Campus Services

Payments and Student Aid

• Families can find information about billing, payments and current balances through Student Accounts.
• All students are required to submit a Tuition Payment Agreement (TPA) by June 10.
• The Office of Financial Aid provides information about need-based aid, aid packages, required documents, deadlines and related policies.

Mail

• The mailroom, located in the Platt Campus Center, receives and distributes incoming mail and offers shipping supplies for various shippers’ services.
• Mail to students should be addressed using the student’s name and mailbox number to 340 E. Foothill Blvd., Claremont, CA 91711-3116.

Dining

• Students have access to HMC dining locations and other dining options across The Claremont Colleges.
• Students with dietary restrictions should contact Miguel Ruvalcaba, Senior Director for Dining Services, at mruvalcaba@hmc.edu or 909.607.0424 to discuss accommodation options.

Residential Facilities

• Every residence hall has WiFi, a laundry room and cleaning supplies for public spaces. Case, Linde, and South residence halls have communal kitchens. Sontag has kitchens in every suite. Atwood has kitchens in efficiencies.
• The Office of Facilities and Maintenance (F&M) can assist your student with repairs, key card issues, moving/storing furniture, lofting beds and other routine maintenance issues.

Staying Connected

Connect with Mudd

• Find the best ways to stay informed about campus news, community achievements and important updates year-round.
• Explore volunteer opportunities to learn how your family can stay connected, share your talents and support the Mudd community.

Build Community

• The Admitted Families Facebook group is a great place for incoming families to ask questions and meet other Mudd families.
• Once your student is on campus, transition to the HMC Families Facebook group to continue engaging with and supporting fellow families.
• Join us on campus in February for Family Weekend for opportunities to share in your student’s Mudd experience and build community in person.
