Summer Welcome Series

Registration is now open for our Summer Welcome Series of virtual events for families! The schedule includes sessions designed to help new-to-Mudd families better understand the HMC student experience and help prepare for the fall. When available, video recordings will be posted below if you unable to attend. For questions, please contact the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at parents@hmc.edu.

July 26 at 7 p.m. PT(Please check your local time zone) | Session for International Families – Video recording

Join Nita Kansara, the assistant dean for institutional diversity and international students and scholars, for this webinar to help you and your student prepare to travel to the US for International Student Orientation at HMC. Nita will review things to pack, some of the programming for International students, and offer additional resources for international students and family members. Current international families will also participate in this session and share insights and respond to questions from an international parent perspective. Families and students are welcome to join.

Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. PT | Academic Overview – Video recording

Sharon Gerbode, associate dean for academic affairs (ADAA), and Mark Ashley, registrar and assistant vice president for student information management, will introduce you to the core curriculum and academic support at Harvey Mudd College. Serving as ultimate academic adviser, the ADAA counsels students on matters related to curriculum, major choice, course withdrawals and transfers, and academic difficulties at large. The ADAA works closely with the Office of Academic Resources and Student Success, which provides academic coaching and study strategies, supports students experiencing personal or health related issues that affect their academics, and oversees educational accessibility services.

Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. PT | Division of Student Affairs Introduction – Video recording

This event features members of the Division of Student Affairs team, which comprises Residential Life, Institutional Diversity, Community Engagement, Health and Wellness, Career Services, Academic Resources, Student Success, Accessible Education, and Campus Life. The DSA staff is responsible for a broad range of student services and support outside of the classroom experience and will guide your student throughout their time at Mudd.

Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. PT | Cultivating Connections Across Differences – Video upon request

The Offices of Civic and Community Engagement (OCCE) and Institutional Diversity (OID) are working closely with the Harvey Mudd and local community to offer a series of discussions, workshops, and activities that will establish networks where different identities and perspectives intersect and interact for students throughout the school year. Join us to learn more about this initiative and other events OCCE and OID offer to HMC students.

Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. PT | Health and Wellness Overview – Video Recording

This session will feature a panel with the director of the the student health center, assistant dean for wellness and residential life, and assistant director of wellness. They will cover the on-campus health services, the student health insurance plan (SHIP) and our wellness resources on HMC campus and at the five-college campuses.

Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. PT | Parent Leadership Council (PLC) Introduction – Parent to Parent Panel – Video Recording

The Parent Leadership Council is a group of parents committed to building community among Mudd families and fostering supportive relationships between families and the College. Members discuss their involvement with the council, shared insight as current parents, and make suggestions for resources for incoming families.

Summer Welcome Receptions

Parents of the incoming Class of 2028 and transfer students are invited to attend regional Summer Welcomes hosted/co-hosted by current and past HMC parents. Summer Welcome Receptions are a great way to make connections within the Mudd parent community, learn about the Mudd experience, and ask questions. For those that can’t attend a regional event, we have a Virtual Summer Welcome Hangout planned.
