Commencement 2021

In consultation with the senior class presidents and based on the results of a survey of their peers, HMC has decided to postpone an in-person Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 until spring 2022, pending approval from the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

In the meantime, virtual celebrations for the Class of 2021 will be held during what would have been their Commencement Weekend, May 15–16, with the following schedule:

Saturday, May 15: Academic Department Celebrations

1:30 p.m. PDT

  • Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts (HSA)

2:00 p.m. PDT

  • Biology
  • Computer Science
  • Physics

3:00 p.m. PDT

  • Chemistry
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics

Sunday, May 16: Celebration of the Class of 2021

1:30 p.m. PDT

  • Address by President Maria Klawe, followed by a photo slideshow created by the Class of 2021 class presidents Christian Garcia and Martin Gonzalez. Students have been asked to submit photos in order to be included in the slideshow. Please encourage your students to submit their photos per the instructions in the emails they received from their class presidents.

2:00 p.m. PDT

  • Student-led celebrations via “Zoom rooms” (or other virtual platforms).

Additional information about registration and Zoom links for these events will be emailed out in the week of May 10–15.

Caps and gowns for the Class of 2021 will be distributed prior to the in-person ceremony next year. Diplomas will be mailed out in early June. The diploma covers will be given at the in-person ceremony.
