Mudd Magazine

Published twice yearly, Mudd Magazine fosters ties with target audiences by featuring College news and achievements of alumni, students, faculty and staff, with particular emphasis on the societal impact of engineering, science and mathematics. In a 2026 survey conducted by Simpson Scarborough, 76% of alumni said they had read the College magazine or other publications in the past year, and 63% identified the magazine/publications as a preferred way to hear from and stay connected with Mudd.

Mudd on the Ground E-newsletter

The Mudd on the Ground employee e-newsletter provides timely, relevant updates about what is happening across Harvey Mudd, helping faculty and staff stay informed and connected to the College and one another. The publication has been successful in strengthening internal communication by creating a consistent channel for sharing information. Its continued engagement demonstrates the value of a dedicated publication that keeps the Mudd community informed.

Mudd Minute Video Series

The Mudd Minute, short videos from President Nembhard to share news with the community, wrapped up its third and last season. Videos were filmed and edited in house and featured strategic plan updates, campus news and events, and stories about innovative teaching and research. Videos were shared further on the website and social media channels to keep the wider community informed about exciting work being done at the College.

Office of Advancement

The Harvey Mudd community celebrated 70 years of “Mudd Moments” by sharing reflections and hopes for the decades ahead. Communications and Marketing partnered with offices across the College to encourage event attendance and achieve goals for events, including the September 70th Anniversary Symposium and the December Campus Celebration.

Supporting the Strategic Plan

The Office of Communications and Marketing produced compelling communications that engaged the community in strategic planning, advanced the College’s STEM for a Better World vision, highlighted collaborative efforts and fostered a culture of shared philanthropic responsibility to sustain HMC’s leadership in higher education.

Harvey Mudd is embarking on a $250 million comprehensive fundraising campaign, guided by our strategic plan, STEM for a Better World. The Campaign fоr Harvey Mudd College website describes the five broad, highly impactful investment areas—the five campaign pillars—which are interconnected to our strategic plan priorities. The site also provides a home for campaign news, updates and ways to get involved.

Innovation Accelerator Projects

Through a suite of Innovation Accelerator Labs, the College is transforming how students interact with data, health, artificial intelligence and the Core Curriculum. OCM support for the labs included creating websites and helping to promote conferences, like the AI Experimentation Lab’s “(Re)Imagining Liberal Arts & STEM Education in the Age of GenAI.”

ASPIRE Summer Academy

In alignment with the STEM for a Better World strategic plan, HMC launched ASPIRE (Advanced STEAM Pre-collegiate Immersion for Research and Exploration), a new two-week residential summer academy introducing high school students to the College’s distinctive, collaborative approach to STEM education. Communications and marketing partnered with admission and student affairs to execute a multi-channel campaign—spanning email, direct mail, social media, web and targeted ads—to build awareness and drive enrollment for the program. The campaign generated over 100 applications, and 55 students enrolled, surpassing the program’s inaugural goal.

Special Projects

Game of Democracy

The Game of Democracy: Art, Engineering Chance, Choice, and Civic Life, a spring semester course led by President Harriet Nembhard and Michael G. and C. Jane Wilson Professor in Arts and the Humanities Ken Fandell, guided students through an exploration about how aesthetics and structural function shape democratic life. OCM helped spread the word about this unique class and resulting student project exhibition through storytelling on social media, in publications and video.

Signage Projects

Partnering with departments across campus, OCM designed and installed vibrant window and wall graphics that energize HMC spaces while showcasing each area’s unique mission. Additionally, in collaboration with facilities and maintenance, we produced giant, portable freestanding “HMC” letters. Easily wheeled out for major events, these eye-catching letters have quickly become a favorite campus centerpiece and photo backdrop for the Mudd community and visitors.
