Parent Orientation 2019 Parking Pass (PDF)

For families travelling from over 500 miles away to come to campus, you may drop off your belongings on Tuesday, August 27, between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you wish to drop off your belongings on the 27th please complete this form to let us know you are coming.

We cannot allow you to sleep in your room before Wednesday, August 28, due to logistical constraints. We have some arrangements with local hotels to help you with travel plans.

Hear from President Maria Klawe, Vice President of Admission and Financial Aid Thyra Briggs, and the new VP for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Anna Gonzalez.
12:45–2 p.m. Academic Overview
(Galileo Auditorium)
Faculty will discuss the curriculum at Mudd, highlighting the core courses incoming students take during their first semester at HMC.
2:10–3:10 p.m. Q&A About Classes and Scheduling
(Galileo Auditorium)
Hear from our registrar to get an idea about how students choose their classes and register each semester with insights from our Dean of Academic Affairs.
3:20–4:20 p.m. From Home Care to Self Care
(Galileo Auditorium)
Division of Student Affairs staff, academic affairs, and mental health advisors will answer your questions about health coverage, support and mental health services.
4:30–6 p.m. President’s Welcome Reception
(Garrett House)
A casual reception at the President’s home.
6–7:30 p.m. Session for First Generation Families
(Hoch-Shanahan Dinning Commons, Aviation Room)

For Wednesday evening dinner, you are welcome to take your child out for dinner on the town, or join us in the campus dining hall for dinner (between 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.). Registering for the on campus event costs $18 per person (students free). You can also purchase this dinner when you arrive (with cash) at the same price if you are concerned about you or your student’s schedule.

This breakfast will include brief remarks from the student orientation leaders and a member of our Parent Leadership Council. This is the last event that will include both parents and students before the students leave Thursday morning.
9:45–10:45 a.m. Campus Life
(Galileo Auditorium)
A panel of members of the Division of Student Affairs will discuss housing, food, and activities on campus.
10:45 a.m.–Noon Parents to Parents: What I Wish I Knew
(Galileo Auditorium)
Current parents from the Parent Leadership Council (PLC) share information on what they wish they had known when they first dropped their student off at Mudd.
