VPN
Service Description
VPN (virtual private network) can be used to access internal resources from off-campus. At Harvey Mudd College, we use the Cisco Secure Client (formally known as the AnyConnect client).
VPN is only required for a small set of services, including:
- On-premise file servers/shares (e.g., TempStorage)
- Financial Aid PowerFAIDS
- Cognos
- OnBase
- CX Servers
Note: VPN is not required for Library resources, Google Workspace, HMC email, the Portal, Canvas, or Workday.
Availability
Available to all faculty, students, staff, and emeritus at HMC.
How to Access the Service
1. Download the Cisco Secure Client
- Go to the TCCS Cisco Secure Client portal.
- Under GROUP, select HMC.
- On the login screen, click Login to be redirected.
- Enter your HMC credentials in the Rapid Identity login window.
- Once authenticated, you’ll be taken to a download page. The correct installer for your operating system will be detected automatically.
- Click Download and run the installer.
- For additional details, click Instructions in the lower-right of the download page.
2. Log in to VPN
- Open the Cisco Secure Client.
- Connect to: vpn.claremont.edu
- In the Group drop-down, select Harvey Mudd College.
- Enter your HMC credentials in the Rapid Identity window.
- Approve the Duo authentication prompt.
You are now connected to HMC’s VPN!
3. Upgrading from AnyConnect
If you already have the older Cisco AnyConnect client installed, you can upgrade to the Cisco Secure Client automatically:
- Connect to vpn.claremont.edu using your current client.
- Approve the update prompts to install the new Cisco Secure Client.
