Harvey Mudd College is a bunch of people who get excited about the same things as you—big ideas, tough questions, a really intense game of ultimate frisbee—and we also understand that learning isn’t just an end to a means. It’s fun. We dare professors to give us problems that they think we can’t solve. Then we stay up all night just to prove them wrong (and also because, secretly, it is kind of fun).

The setting is intimate and strictly undergraduate—perfect for producing well-rounded scientists. It also helps that we have meaningful and challenging classes; research that undergraduate students at other schools can only dream of; every club imaginable to keep us entertained and connected; student athletics so we can flex more than our brains; and enough music outlets to feed the need, whether it’s experimental jazz or indie rock.

But really it’s the people that make us HMC. We’re a tight community where everyone knows your name, even the professors. Especially the professors. We love everything off-beat. We’re sarcastic without being smug; irreverent rather than weird; and while we’re all about embracing our inner geek, we also love defying the stereotype. (Who says reading comic books is a waste of time? Especially when, after HMC, you do the special effects for the Spiderman films and win an Academy Award for it.)

Teamwork is how things get done. After all, the new President wasn’t going to plan her own welcome prank and those 13 patents based on last year’s Clinic research projects sure weren’t going to write themselves. But most important, we’re for real. When the caps and gowns come off, we’re looking at full fellowships at prestigious Ph.D. programs, starting salaries anywhere from $45,000-$75,000, and everything in between.
