Lecture Capture

We have had our Lecture Capture systems at HMC now for over a year. We will be going over how to request a recording to be scheduled, which rooms are available, and the best practices to have a great recording. We will also cover how to get the recordings put into class Sakai sites as well as the analytics that can be retrieved.

Perceptive Pixel Demo

The Perceptive Pixel is a brand new interactive display and computer that was recently donated to CIS by HMC trustee Michael Angiulo. It is basically a giant touch screen connected to a Windows computer that can be used in demonstrations, meetings, classes, etc. It is similar to the Smartboard but has some different capabilities. We’ll be doing a demo of the Perceptive Pixel in the Sprague Learning Studio, where it will reside for now so that students can use it.

Sakai Lessons Tool

The Sakai Lessons tool is relatively new to our instance of Sakai, and uses a very different paradigm from most other Sakai tools. Lessons allows you to create pages that link to other Sakai tools such as quizzes, assignments, resource items, or forum topics. Usage scenarios include creating an interactive syllabus or lesson plan. You can create multiple pages that appear in the list of tools on the left or use one page to link to multiple subpages. Inserting images or other multimedia files allow you to create more visually interesting pages. The Lessons tool is a great way to organize your content on Sakai and make it easier for students to find what they need.

Sakai Gradebook2 Tool

Gradebook2 is an alternative to the familiar Gradebook tool in Sakai. It was developed at UC Davis and has a number of features not available in Gradebook including support for extra credit. It has a spreadsheet-like user interface, making it easy to enter grades for multiple students at once. It also provides histograms and the ability to choose what information to display to students. If you’ve tried the regular Gradebook tool and didn’t like it, Gradebook2 may be more to your liking.
