Adding Users Manually to Canvas Courses
Wednesday, August 13th, 10:00-10:30
We recently re-enabled the ability for faculty to manually add TAs to their course sites. There are a couple of complications to adding users correctly, so please be sure to attend this short workshop, watch the recording, or read our documentation before trying it out. You are of course still welcome to email the Help Desk and ask us to do it for you!
Canvas and Gradescope
Wednesday, August 13th, 11:00-12:00
Gradescope is a very useful online grading tool. It works well for handwritten problem sets, as well as for coding assignments. It integrates with Canvas so that instructors can easily create their Gradescope site from within Canvas, synchronize rosters between Canvas and Gradescope, and synchronize the Gradescope gradebook to Canvas. We’ll cover all of those tasks, as well as show how to create and grade assignments and exams in Gradescope.
Canvas Assignments and Speedgrader
Wednesday, August 13th, 2:00-3:00
The Speedgrader is one of the most popular tools in Canvas. It works well for digitally uploaded assignments. Faculty can view the submissions within the browser and easily annotate, highlight, and add comments. We’ll show how to create assignments in Canvas and use the Speedgrader to grade them.
Canvas Pages and Modules
Thursday, August 14th, 10:00-11:00
The Canvas Modules tool is a great way to organize and streamline your course content. In this workshop, we’ll show how to create and edit Modules, link to other Canvas content, and create course content using the Pages tool.
New Features in Canvas
Thursday, August 14th, 11:00-12:00
James recently attended the InstructureCon conference and came back with information on lots of exciting new features including the new Block editor in Pages, Discussion Summaries, and the many new announcements from Canvas.
Google Drive Best Practices
Friday, August 15th, 11:00-12:00
Google Drive is a great tool for collaborating with students and colleagues. It’s easy to share documents with individuals and groups of people. But when students graduate or colleagues leave HMC, you can lose access to important data. In this workshop we’ll share some best practices for using Shared Drives to collaborate more effectively with students and colleagues.
