Cognos Business Intelligence is a web-based, integrated business intelligence suite by IBM. It provides a toolset primarily used for reporting data from our student information system, CX, but can also be integrated with other databases. The software consists of several components to meet the different information needs of HMC. Reporting is a powerful driving force in aiding to make informed decisions for many departments at HMC. Discovering trends, government reporting, and mailing lists are just a few examples of the ways these departments take advantage of this user-friendly access to information. Training, documentation, and report generation are available to HMC faculty and staff.

For first time access, contact the Help Desk at email@example.com to have your account set up. Use an HMC network or VPN, and one of Cognos’ supported browsers:
- Internet Explorer 8, 9: Adobe Flash plug-in Version
- Internet Explorer 10, 11: Compatibility mode only
- Firefox ESR 24 (interim fix 8 required), 31
- Safari 5, 6, 7 (not for iPad)
How to Access the Service
Office hours are available every Tuesday 3:30–4:30 p.m. in Sprague (5th floor) for Cognos support. Individual appointments for training and support can also be scheduled by contact the Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org. Classes can be held for groups as needed. Basic vendor training is available within the Cognos site help menu as well.
