Keith Miyake ’04

Keith Miyake (engineering) was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Ethnic Studies and Labor Studies Program at the University of California, Riverside. Keith’s recently published book, The Racial Environmental State: Contested Spaces of Resistance (University of Washington Press, 2026) explores how people have leveraged environmental policy to fight for racial and environmental justice through abolitionist and decolonial praxis, within and against the state. Their research focuses on racial capitalism, carceral and abolition geographies, decolonization, environmental and climate justice, prisons, policing, and borders.
