Rafael Alvarez ’86

I’m very excited to share this “class notes” update. After 8 years in industry and 30 years in higher education, I “graduated” (retired) from San Diego City College on September 6th to become a full-time revolutionary to spark the learning culture revolution across higher education to help transform student lives. My first stop was San Diego State University on September 9th. I then visited six institutions in five states in fall 2024, with my last visit to Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC – December 2nd), where I reunited with my ’86 classmate and Mudder brother, Dr. Charles Piblel, Associate Dean in the GGC School of Science and Technology! Charles coordinated my itinerary for my visit to GGC, including a presentation to students, followed by lunch with students, and meetings with the Provost, School Dean, and Department Chairs – and I had a blast! It’s always a privilege to interact with students, and I believe that the GGC educational leaders truly appreciated the opportunity to be introduced to the learning culture empowerment model.

Attached is a “snapshot” of the revolution in 2024, and I can’t wait for many more opportunities in 2025 to “turn on the lights” for students and leaders. Also attached are pictures from my visit to GGC, including a picture of our lunch group and a “then and now” picture of Charles and I, with our HMC “look book” pictures from 1982 in the “once upon a time” slide from my presentation in the background! Charles is also included on courtesy CC for this email. It was terrific to reconnect with my Mudder brother.

Hope this too makes your day. Take care. Happy holidays!
