James W. Michel ’68

James W. Michel ’68 (chemistry) is building education for the AI era after four decades in primary care medicine. Based in Camas, Washington, he founded Cosmic Chronicles Creative, an educational publishing venture for children and adults. His work connects scientific inquiry, clinical judgment, and a central question: how can powerful assistance leave people more capable of understanding, choosing, and taking responsibility?

Using human–AI collaboration, James is developing The Dimensional Archive on Substack as a navigable ‘Forest’ of essays, thematic trails, and connected ideas. His foundational essay, ‘Why AI Education Is Not Really About AI,’ explores curiosity and responsibility for judgment. On September 25, he published ‘Built to Help the World Thrive,’ exploring how data-center infrastructure might contribute to surrounding communities and ecosystems. Related coursework remains in development, with the aim of strengthening human agency and the capacity to examine consequences.
