Bernie Santarsiero ’75

Just an update. In May, I received the Lifetime Service Award from the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Latinos; in July, at the annual national conference, I was elected as a Fellow of the American Crystallographic Association; and in November, I will receive the UIC Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence (CAPE) Award for “exceptional commitment to education equity and outstanding leadership across research and academic initiatives.” I am retiring from UIC, after 25 years, on December 31, 2025. I’m currently a Research Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy; and Director of Research Initiatives for the Graduate College and Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. I’ve definately enjoyed working at UIC on both research (drug discovery) and in various administrative positions.
