Riggs Fellowship Student Impact

Student Impact

While companies benefit significantly, our students learn and are technically challenged. They are exposed to many disciplines of engineering, such as manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, quality engineering, design, engineering management. Depending on the project, students have to use their knowledge from many areas of engineering, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software, and thermodynamics. Through the fellowship, they learn leadership and soft skills, as well. The fellows use change management while implementing new ideas. Otherwise, the employees may resent the change and try to sabotage the project.  Students must interact with all levels of management from the president to executives, to supervisors, to operators. Their communication and presentation skills improve. They learn to act like consultants rather than students.
