Marissa Sinopoli

Marissa Sinopoli ’18, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Engineering and a biomechanist whose research integrates motion analysis, musculoskeletal simulation, wearable sensing, and medical imaging to quantify and improve human mobility.

Sinopoli leads the Human Movement Biomechanics Lab in Engineering (HUMBLE) at Harvey Mudd College. Her team conducts both laboratory and field studies to understand how 3D anatomy and joint mechanics of the knee contribute to injury and disease. Sinopoli’s research involves collaborations with clinicians and local organizations, including Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics, to advance injury prevention and treatment initiatives.

Committed to providing students with meaningful learning experiences that connect foundational principles to real-world health challenges, Sinopoli teaches courses in engineering design, biomedical engineering, and biomechanics. She is an active mentor for student leaders through organizations including the Society of Women Engineers and Tau Beta Pi.

Sinopoli earned her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and BS in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College. Prior to joining the Harvey Mudd faculty in 2024, she worked in the medical device industry and as a biomechanist for the Philadelphia Phillies.
