Update on the Presidential Search: Candidate Visit Scheduled

Share story

Members of the HMC Community,

As announced last month, the search for the sixth president of Harvey Mudd College is progressing to the next stage. In August the Presidential Search Committee (PSC) met with eight individuals who aligned with the many special attributes of Harvey Mudd College and who fit the desired qualifications and personal characteristics that are what we believe will be essential for the success of the next president. These qualities were compiled by our community through various surveys and focus groups and can be found in our position specification.

In September we brought four finalists recommended by the PSC to campus to meet with a larger number of individuals including trustees, faculty, staff and students. Following the feedback received from those visits, the PSC met and is inviting one finalist to campus for a fully public visit with an open presentation and reception as mentioned in our March 21 message to the community. I want to express my deep appreciation to the many trustees, faculty, staff and students who generously gave their time to meet with these finalists and provide thoughtful feedback.

Please save Monday, Nov. 7, for the apparent (one remaining finalist) to visit campus. A public presentation with time for Q&A will begin at 4 p.m. in Galileo Hall and will be available via live stream. The presentation will be followed by a reception in the Galileo Foyer and Hixon Courtyard.

Additional opportunities for interactions with the candidate will be announced to specific groups. The name and curriculum vita of the individual will be shared Sunday, Nov. 6. An online opportunity to submit comments will be available at the conclusion of this visit. After reviewing the visit and community input, the Board will meet to discuss next steps.

Regards,

Jim Bean ’77
