HMC Presidential Search Committee Takes Next Step

Share story

With the guidance from our recruiting firm Spencer Stuart, the search for the sixth president of Harvey Mudd College is progressing to the next stage. We are pleased that we have one of the richest pools of candidates in the country. The Presidential Search Committee (PSC) met with eight individuals in August and are moving forward with the formal recruitment of a candidate who aligns with the many special attributes of Harvey Mudd College and who fits the desired qualifications and personal characteristics that are what we believe will be essential for the success of the next president. These qualities were compiled by our community through various surveys and focus groups and can be found in our position specification.

The second-round interviews will take place before fall break (Oct. 14-19). As we shared previously, the second-round interviews will include additional members of the campus community beyond the PSC who will meet with the candidates. By broadening the circle of those who interview the candidates, the PSC anticipates receiving additional feedback on each candidate to inform our deliberations.

At the conclusion of the second-round interviews, the PSC will invite one remaining finalist to campus for a fully public visit with an open presentation and social activities. An online opportunity to submit comments will be available at the conclusion of the visit. After reviewing the visit and community input, the PSC will either vote to recommend the apparent choice to the Board of Trustees as the next president or conclude that we must continue our search efforts.

These are the current plans, and as with every search, plans may need to be modified.

Sincerely,

Jim Bean ‘77

Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Presidential Search Committee
