Family Orientation 2025 Schedule

Registration is now open for Family Orientation! Registration is not required to participate, but please let us know if you plan to be on campus so we can plan accordingly. Below is our tentative schedule of events; check back in for updates and changes.

8 –11 a.m.Parent and Family Check-in and Name-tag Pick-up/ Move into the Residence Halls
(Platt Living Room, Platt Campus Center)
Pick up family member name-tags and information as your student moves into their room.
11 a.m.–1 p.m.Family Lunch
(Platt Lawn)
Take a break and pick-up a grab-n-go lunch. Student’s will have their own lunch separately.
1–2 p.m.President’s Welcome
(Shanahan Auditorium)
Hear from President Nembhard and key members of her Cabinet as they welcome you to Harvey Mudd College. Questions are welcome as you learn more about HMC.
2–4 p.m.Campus Resource Fair/Reception
(Shanahan Center)
A resource fair for families to talk to offices at HMC to answer any questions. Offices that will be available include: Student Health Services, Monsour Counseling (MCAPS), Office of Career Services, Residential Life, Study Abroad, Civic and Community Engagement, Wellbeing, Institutional Diversity, Academic Resources, Access, Dining Services, Student Accounts, and Financial Aid.
The Makerspace will also be open for visitors during this time. Head over to the first-floor of the McGregor building to see the space and some of the cool features for our students.
5–6 p.m.President’s Reception and Family Farewell
(Strauss Plaza)
Join this casual reception with President Harriet Nembhard and share some final moments with your student before they head-off to continue their orientation programming.

As students will become unavailable at dinner, we encourage you to say good-bye to your student at the conclusion of the President’s Reception and Farewell to Families. Beginning at dinner on Thursday, your student will become immersed in their orientation programming and will be less available.

If you are looking for something to do after you finish move-in, we have a few suggestions to fill your time.

  • Take a trip to see the picturesque downtown Claremont area.
  • Take a walk around campus with our self-guided campus tour hand out.
  • Take a break and grab a Starbucks drink at the Cafe located in our Shanahan Center for Teaching and Learning.
  • Visit Huntley Bookstore (Hours: 9 a.m.–3 p.m.) located at 800 N. Dartmouth Ave., Claremont. They are offering a special discount coupon to incoming families.
