The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in association with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is concerned about the safety of the public, its employees, and physical assets when returning samples from other planets. The Harvey Mudd College NASA/JPL clinic team is building on the work of previous clinic teams to construct an outline of a Risk Informed Safety Case (RISC) for an extraterrestrial sample return mission. Furthermore, the team is conducting neutralization testing on indicator bacteria to justify the RISC.
