Track Team Wins SCIAC Championship

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s track and field team (Stags) won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships April 27 in Los Angeles.

The win marks the 20th SCIAC title earned in the team’s history.

The Stags nabbed first place with 212.5 points and won six individual events. Winners included students Matt Espy ’15 in the 400-meter hurdles (54.10), Justin Jones ’15 in the 800-meter run (1:53.16) and Bennett Naden ’13 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:21.17). All three Harvey Mudd College students earned First Team All-SCIAC honors.

Rafer Dannenhauer ’13 came in second in the 5,000-meter run (14:46.22) and Chris Gage ’13 seized second place in the hammer throw (164-4). Both students earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors.
