Harvey Mudd Ranks No. 8 in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges 2027 

Harvey Mudd College ranked No. 8 among national liberal arts colleges in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges 2027, moving up two places from last year.

In a new category in this year’s rankings, Top Private Colleges, the College ranked No. 7 among national liberal arts colleges.

Harvey Mudd ranked No. 7 for Most Innovative Schools (tied); No. 16 for Undergraduate Research/Creative Projects (tied); No. 20 for Senior Capstone (tied); and No. 21 for Undergraduate Teaching (tied). 

The College’s undergraduate engineering program tied for No. 2 among non-doctorate-granting institutions, maintaining its position from last year.

Harvey Mudd’s engineering program was also recognized in four specialties, ranking No. 3 in electrical and electronic engineering, No. 4 in mechanical engineering, No. 6 in computer engineering and No. 7 in civil engineering. Harvey Mudd offers a general engineering degree that emphasizes experiential, hands-on learning and team-based projects with real-world applications.

In the seventh year of U.S. News & World Report’s undergraduate computer science rankings, which include both doctoral and non-doctoral institutions, Harvey Mudd ranked No. 28 (tied). Harvey Mudd is the highest-ranked undergraduate-only institution on the list.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings are based on a range of factors, including graduation and retention rates, graduate outcomes, peer assessment, financial resources, faculty resources, standardized test scores and research citations.
