Harvey Mudd College President Maria Klawe was named to Fortune’s  “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” list, a selection of leaders that includes Pope Francis, Bono, the Dalai Lama and Bill Clinton.

“In an era that feels starved for leadership, we’ve found men and women who will inspire you—some famous, others little known, all of them energizing their followers and making the world better” wrote Fortune’s editors about their first-ever World Leaders List.

Klawe appears at No. 17 on the list, and is lauded for “leading the charge to bring more women into science, technology, and engineering.”

Fortune describes Harvey Mudd’s successful efforts to attract women to computer science that increased the percentage of female CS majors at the College from 10 percent to 40 percent over a six-year period.

The Fortune list boasts some highly notable company: Burmese political activist Aung San Suu Kyi, Apple CEO Tim Cook and climate activist Mary Robinson are just a few of the innovative world leaders featured alongside Klawe.
