Admission and Financial Aid Operations Assistant Judy Givigliano was selected to receive the 2016 Mary G. Binder Prize, announced the Selection Committee.

The Mary G. Binder Prize honors a member of HMC’s support staff “who combines a record of exceptional service with a truly helpful and friendly attitude toward students, faculty and fellow staff members all across the college.” The prize was established in 1996 by engineering Professor Emeritus Sam Tanenbaum and his wife, Carol, in honor of Carol’s mother. It includes a $750 award, the addition of the recipient’s names to the Mary G. Binder Prize plaque in the Galileo foyer and a commemorative certificate.

“I am honored to be among the many Mary G. Binder Prize recipients and am humbled by all the congratulatory emails I have been receiving. I thank all my colleagues for nominating me,” Givigliano says.

Givigliano began working at Harvey Mudd in College Advancement in 1988 and transferred to Admission and Financial Aid in 1989. The decision to award the Mary G. Binder Prize to Givigliano is best represented by an excerpt from one of the nominations submitted on her behalf:

“Judy has been a member of the Harvey Mudd community for over 20 years and has served in various roles, but the Office of Admission has been her home for most of that time. She takes great pride in the fact that our office is the initial face of the College and that it is crucial for families to see in their interactions with our office the same warmth and kindness that is characteristic of the rest of the College.… She has also become the voice of our office with the rest of the HMC community and has a strong reputation with faculty and staff alike. She is exceedingly proud of the College and the work our office does, and we see that every day in her approach to her job.”

Givigliano will be honored as the Binder Prize recipient at the annual Harvey Mudd year-end celebration on Monday, May 16.
