The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is a non-profit research center dedicated to ocean exploration through innovative marine technology. MBARI utilizes remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to explore the deep sea. Researchers are currently experimenting with an augmented reality (AR) system to allow ROV pilots to more easily view the vehicle’s surroundings, including depth overlays and an eye-tracking interface. The Clinic team sought to significantly improve the AR technology’s practicality as a primary control system in real dives.
