The ureteral stent is a thin tube residing in the ureter which helps drain urine from the kidney to the bladder. Patients may need to wear a ureteral stent for varying amounts of time, ranging from just a few weeks in the case of kidney stones, or over a year for cancer patients with persistent tumors obstructing their ureters. Our project aims to redesign the ureteral stent and its insertion procedure to increase patient comfort and minimize encrustation during long dwell periods.
