March 28 Update on Commencement

Members of the HMC Community,

On Monday morning, Harvey Mudd will relaunch the spring semester by initiating the online delivery of our curriculum. This will mark the end of the first phase of our response to COVID-19, a challenge that has united all of us in ensuring the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff and in planning for the continuity of our academic program.

Regrettably, the unprecedented and mounting challenges of COVID-19 suggest that we must now postpone our most cherished academic celebration, commencement.  Please know that we will find a new date for an on-campus commencement ceremony when our graduates and their families can return safely to celebrate with friends and loved ones.  While we will not have a virtual ceremony in May, we will find a meaningful way to mark the day for our graduates.

To facilitate planning of both of these events, we are gathering a steering committee of students, faculty and staff, chaired by Deans Gonzalez and Sullivan.

We look forward to the moment when, with these difficult days behind us, we can fully celebrate the Class of 2020 here in Claremont. In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and reach out to us if we can be of any assistance as you begin the transition to online courses.
