Harvey Mudd Establishes New Endowed Professorship in Artificial Intelligence

Harvey Mudd College (HMC) is pleased to announce an opening for the new Jenna and Paul Segal Endowed Professorship of Artificial Intelligence. 

The successful candidate will collaborate to advance the college’s visions for AI innovation, which are human-centered and interdisciplinary. We are seeking an exemplary teacher-scholar who will propel the College’s efforts to explore the technical frontiers of AI intertwined with its human, ethical and societal implications, while preparing students to collaborate with intelligent systems in complex, real-world contexts. We anticipate hiring at the assistant professor level, but exceptional candidates at all ranks are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate would be expected to provide students with vibrant AI research experiences and develop innovative AI curricula and programming that support AI education across all departments at HMC and beyond. In addition to offering courses at the forefront of AI technological advances, such as generative AI or deep learning, the candidate will be expected to have a clear vision for how their research and teaching address the ethics and social impacts of AI.    

Harvey Mudd College is a highly selective liberal arts college of science, engineering, and mathematics. It is located in Claremont, Calif., approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles, at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. The College enrolls approximately 950 students, nearly all of whom live on campus. Successful candidates should have completed a PhD in a relevant field by the time of appointment. The 9-month salary range for this position is $110k–180k, depending on experience and rank. The search is currently open and will continue until the position is filled.
