The Heart of Thriving in the Core
The Innovation Accelerator Laboratory for Thriving in the Core Curriculum reimagines how students experience Harvey Mudd’s foundational Core Curriculum. While the Core is central to academic rigor and intellectual breadth, it can be challenging. This lab creates a holistic support system that integrates academic preparation, one-on-one tutoring, and cohort-based mentoring to help all students thrive, not just survive, in the Core.
Beginning with a pre-frosh Summer Core Skills Institute and continuing through the sophomore year, the lab fosters academic achievement, confidence, and belonging. Cohort groups known as HMC STEM Scholars take courses together and receive weekly support from faculty and student mentors, blending skills development with strong community connection.
