CDC and Public Health Officials’ Recommendations
The CDC and public health officials recommend normal hygiene practices are most effective in preventing disease. These include:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water for 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
- Cover your nose and mouth with your elbow or a tissue when sneezing or coughing. If you use a tissue, throw it away immediately.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Limit close contact such as kissing or sharing cups and utensils with those who are sick.
