During its weekly meeting, the President’s Cabinet discussed the policy shared last week concerning how financial aid packages would be adjusted for students who opted to live off campus. In recognition of the extenuating circumstances of COVID-19, we have made the decision to revert to the college’s original financial aid policy for students opting to live off campus for the fall semester of 2020. In a typical year, students have to petition to live off campus, and if they are given permission to do so, their cost of attendance is reduced to reflect the fact that living expenses off campus are typically lower than those on campus due to a greater range of housing and food options available. If students opt to live off campus and stay with family members, normally the cost of attendance is further reduced to reflect lower or non-existent housing costs. This fall in recognition of the current situation, we are not requiring students to petition to live off campus for the first semester. Last week we announced that students who opted to live off campus would be assumed to be living with family members, and their financial aid would be adjusted accordingly. At our meeting this morning, we decided to revert to our previous policy that allows students who live off campus and not with family members to be packaged with a cost of attendance that is higher than the cost of living with family members but lower than the cost of living on campus.
Therefore, Room and Board costs for fall semester will be as follows:
Students living on campus :$9,339.50
Students living off campus and not with family members: $5,591.00
Students living off campus with family members: $2,031.50
Please note that this is only for the fall of 2020. Later in the fall we will assess both the COVID-19 and campus housing situation before making a determination of the process for spring semester. We hope that you and your families are well, and we look forward to hearing from you regarding your plans as soon as possible but no later than July 15.
