Dear Faculty, Students and Staff,
Many of you will have seen reports that a student living at one of the other undergraduate campuses tested positive for COVID-19 on April 29. We wanted to update our community on the situation. Based on the information we have received, the student is no longer on their home campus and has returned home. There is no indication that the student had any in-person contact with any member of the Harvey Mudd College community. As a community, I know you will join me in extending our best wishes to this student and to their family for a speedy recovery.
As a reminder, in keeping with federal and state laws governing patient confidentiality, we are not able to provide any identifying information about members of the community who become infected, other than to confirm that they are a student or employee. We will work with the person where possible to assist with tracing with whom they may have been in contact. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to continue following the recommendations from public health officials, particularly in regard to wearing masks when pursuing essential tasks and following guidance for appropriate hand hygiene.
Now that classes have come to an end, I would like to take a moment to again thank our incredible faculty members for their amazing work in quickly shifting to online courses this semester as well as for going above and beyond to meet with students during extended online office hours. To our staff members who transitioned to working remotely—and especially to those who were deemed essential and who came to campus to provide ongoing support to our students in residence—we are very grateful. And finally, to our students, I thank you for your understanding and for your willingness to work with us in making this last-minute change. I know this is not how we hoped to close out this year at Harvey Mudd, but we look forward to the chance when we can all be together again. Until then, we wish all of you the very best on your upcoming final exams!
