Judy Tzu-Chun Wu and Adrienne A. Winans will discuss their book Moving Mountains, which documents the first and only U.S. National Women’s Conference that brought over 20,000 participants, mostly women, who gathered in Houston in November 1977. This conference was funded by the federal government with the goal of creating a national women’s agenda. Wu and Winans center the Asian American and Pacific Islander delegates who politically mobilized around women’s rights and other issues to transform their communities and their status in the nation-state.
