As the assistant vice president for student affairs, Leslie Hughes is responsible for the administration and management of the Office of Residential Life and the Office of Campus Life at Harvey Mudd College. Leslie works with the assistant dean for residential life, proctors and mentors as they provide programming and education designed to foster community. The residential life team focuses on integrating principles of wellness, diversity, community engagement and opportunities for staff and faculty interaction for students. Leslie also works with the associate dean for campus life and the assistant dean for campus life to coordinate a variety of activities on campus designed to promote a robust, healthy and well-balanced student experience. Leslie provides guidance in student behavioral matters and advises the disciplinary board chair in all aspects of the judicial process. Leslie oversees the Incident Response Team, which responds to campus emergencies and provides on-call support for students. Leslie focuses on providing advocacy and support to students as a member of the Care Team.
Leslie joined the Division of Student Affairs in 2014 as the associate dean of students and Title IX coordinator. Prior to joining HMC, Leslie worked as the assistant dean of students at Salem College in North Carolina. In her role at Salem, she provided guidance, vision and leadership for Office of Residence Life and managed the student conduct process.
Leslie is currently working on her doctorate of education in organizational change and leadership at the University of Southern California. Leslie holds an MEd in student personnel administration in higher education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Leslie is also a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, where she earned her B.S. in art therapy.
