As the associate dean of students, Leslie Hughes is responsible for the administration and management of the residential life program. Dean Leslie works with the assistant dean for residential life, proctors and mentors as they provide programming designed to foster community within the dorms. The residential life team focuses on integrating principles of wellness, diversity, community engagement and opportunities for staff and faculty interaction for students. In her role, she provides guidance in student behavioral matters and advises the disciplinary board chair in all aspects of the judicial process. In addition, she serves as the Title IX coordinator and focuses on empowerment, advocacy and support for students.
Dean Leslie joined the Division of Student Affairs in July 2014. Prior to joining Harvey Mudd, she worked as the assistant dean of students at Salem College in North Carolina for seven years. In her role as assistant dean, she provided leadership to approximately 500 residential students, 25 resident assistants and three residential coordinators.
Dean Leslie is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, where she earned her B.S. in art therapy. She holds an MEd in student personnel administration in higher education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
