Summer Welcome Series

Registration is now open for our Summer Welcome Series of virtual events for families! The schedule includes sessions designed to help new-to-Mudd families better understand the HMC student experience and help prepare for the fall. When available, video recordings will be posted below if you unable to attend. For questions, please contact the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at parents@hmc.edu.

Saturday, August 5 at 9 a.m. PDT | Academic Overview

Sharon Gerbode, associate dean for academic affairs (ADAA), will introduce you to the core curriculum and academic support at Harvey Mudd College. Serving as ultimate academic adviser, the ADAA counsels students on matters related to curriculum, major choice, course withdrawals and transfers, and academic difficulties at large. The ADAA works closely with the Office of Academic Resources and Student Success, which provides academic coaching and study strategies, supports students experiencing personal or health related issues that affect their academics, and oversees educational accessibility services.

Saturday, August 5 at 10:30 a.m. PDT | Division of Student Affairs Introduction

This event features members of the Division of Student Affairs team, which comprises Residential Life, Institutional Diversity, Community Engagement, Health and Wellness, Career Services, Academic Resources, Student Success, Accessible Education, and Campus Life. The DSA staff is responsible for a broad range of student services and support outside of the classroom experience and will guide your student throughout their time at Mudd.

Tuesday, August 8 at 5 p.m. PDT | Session for Families of Summer Institute (SI) Students

The session is designed to answer questions and offer additional resources for family members of students participating in HMC’s Summer Institute (SI) program. Summer Institute’s mission is to increase the leadership development and personal and academic success of participants. It targets students who are underrepresented in science, math and engineering, but participation is not limited to these groups. Through the SI program, scholars will build their sense of belonging and engage in topics related to identity development, social action, equity, and diversity. In this session we hope to answer any questions family members may have about the program, and help prepare families for moving their student to campus.

Friday, August 11 at 7 p.m. PDT (Please check your local time zone) | Session for International Families

Nicki Acosta, the Program Manager for International Students and Scholars, will be available to answer any questions and offer additional resources for international students and family members. Parent Leadership Council members, will also participate in this session and share insights and respond to questions from an international parent perspective.

Saturday, August 12 at 9 a.m. PDT | Health and Wellness Overview

This session will feature a panel with the director of the the student health center, assistant dean for wellness and residential life, and assistant director of wellness. They will cover the on-campus health services, the student health insurance plan (SHIP) and our wellness resources on HMC campus and at the five-college campuses.

Saturday, August 12 at 10:30 a.m. PDT| Parent Leadership Council (PLC) Introduction – Parent to Parent Panel

The Parent Leadership Council is a group of parents committed to building community among Mudd families and fostering supportive relationships between families and the College. Members discuss their involvement with the council, shared insight as current parents, and make suggestions for resources for incoming families.

Summer Welcome Receptions

Parents of the incoming Class of 2027 and transfer students are invited to attend regional Summer Welcomes hosted/co-hosted by current and past HMC parents. Summer Welcome Receptions are a great way to make connections within the Mudd parent community, learn about the Mudd experience, and ask questions. For those that can’t attend a regional event, we have a Virtual Summer Welcome Hangout planned.
