Lots of the projects require materials we don&#8217;t have on hand. If you have an idea for a project and you can&#8217;t find the resources in the makerspace, you can apply for a grant to help fund your project by filling out the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/1D3kzP4tAuTAvlAzueZABVAT7DQdpbwI6Zn3o94G-5v4\/edit\">Project Funding form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are some of the projects that our grant helped fund. If you want to know more about these projects, ask the stewards at <a href=\"mailto:&#109;a&#107;&#101;&#114;&#115;&#112;&#97;ce&#45;ma&#110;a&#103;&#101;&#109;&#101;n&#116;&#45;&#108;&#64;&#103;.h&#109;c&#46;&#101;&#100;u\">&#109;&#97;&#107;e&#114;&#115;pac&#101;&#45;m&#97;&#110;&#97;g&#101;&#109;e&#110;t&#45;&#108;&#64;g.&#104;&#109;&#99;.e&#100;u<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single\"><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/makerspace\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2024\/10\/elly2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"725\" height=\"800\" \/><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-content-wrapper\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-heading\">Engraved Acrylic LED Sign<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-sub-heading\">Elly Rokeach<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-copy\">\n<p>Utilizing the laser cutter to engrave acrylic and the electronics bench to build an LED circuit, this user built a beautiful light-up sign for the Pomona fall dance concert. Elly also wrote code for a small microcontroller board, allowing the sign fade through a beautiful rainbow of colors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single\"><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/makerspace\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-30-at-4.42.24-PM-1-e1685491226439.png\" alt=\"A hand holding two purple tool handles that are made of anodized titanium.\" width=\"764\" height=\"900\" \/><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-content-wrapper\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-heading\">Anodized Titanium Handles<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-sub-heading\">Gabriel Zwillinger<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-copy\">\n<p>Using the power supplies at the electronics bench and the theory of electrolytic dissociation, this user anodized silver titanium tool handles to attain a brilliant blue color. A current running through the handles while they were suspended in a conductive baking soda solution manipulated the oxide layer on the surface of the titanium to produce a colorful finish.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single\"><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/makerspace\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-30-at-5.21.41-PM.png\" alt=\"Left: A layout of floral-patterned stamps with a gap for a block of text on the left side. The designs were cut out using our Glowforge 3D laser printer and the text and designs were printed on the printing press. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single\"><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/makerspace\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2023\/07\/Screenshot-2023-07-17-093431.png\" alt=\"Two rectangular cutting boards with vertical stripes made of different kinds of wood.\" width=\"825\" height=\"556\" \/><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-content-wrapper\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-heading\">Cutting Board<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-sub-heading\">Amy Qian<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-copy\">\n<p>Amy made two cutting boards for her family as Christmas presents! She made them out of maple, mahogany, and purpleheart wood. To make these, Amy used several machines in the machine shop, including the miter saw, the table saw, and the mill.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single\"><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/makerspace\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2023\/07\/Screenshot-2023-07-17-094918.png\" alt=\"Five differently-colored potholders that are quilted to depict a brain.\" width=\"703\" height=\"513\" \/><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-content-wrapper\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-heading\">Brain Art Potholders<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-sub-heading\">Kate Phillips<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-copy\">\n<p>Kate used images from her own MRI to create quilted potholders of her brain! She used a modern trapunto quilting method to give the potholders more 3-dimensionality, basted the layers together, and got to quilting.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single\"><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/makerspace\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2023\/07\/Screenshot-2023-07-17-103059.png\" alt=\"The back side of an electric guitar depicting how the electronics have been hooked up.\" width=\"1011\" height=\"727\" \/><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-content-wrapper\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-heading\">Electric Guitar<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-sub-heading\">Clayson Briggs, Ava Fascetti, and Brian McNair<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-mudd-showcase-single-copy\">\n<p>Clayson, Ava, and Brian built a custom Stratocaster-type guitar using the resources available through the makerspace and the machine shop. After digging online about potentiometers, guitar pickups, and coil-splitting circuits, they created their own schematic for the guitar and went to work assembling it!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Get Inspired Makerspace users are always working on something cool!
