I have composed extensively for traditional ensembles, gamelan, electronic instruments, and mixed media, including abstract computer animation, robot choreography, and virtual reality.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billalves.com\/recordings.html\">CDs of my audio works<\/a>&nbsp;include&nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billalves.com\/terrainofpossibilities.html\">The Terrain of Possibilities<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billalves.com\/imbal-imbalan.html\">Imbal-Imbalan<\/a>,<\/em> &nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billalves.com\/MysticCanyonCD.html\">Mystic Canyon<\/a><\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/microfestrecords.com\/guitars-and-gamelan\/\"><em>Guitars and Gamelan<\/em><\/a>, a dvd of my video works, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iotacenter.org\/store\/videos\/alves_dvd\">Celestial Dance<\/a><\/em>,&nbsp;is published by the Kinetica Video Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have published a <a href=\"https:\/\/iupress.org\/9780253026156\/lou-harrison\/\">biography of composer Lou Harrison<\/a> with co-author Brett Campbell, and my textbook, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Music-Peoples-World-William-Alves\/dp\/0495503843\/\">Music of the Peoples of the World<\/a>, is now in its third edition. I have also written for <em>Perspectives of New Music, Computer Music Journal, SEAMUS Journal<\/em>,<em> 1\/1<\/em>, and elsewhere. I am a co-director of <a href=\"http:\/\/microfest.org\/\">MicroFest<\/a>, the annual Southern California festival of microtonal music.
