Hixon Center Research and Internship Opportunities

The Hixon Center offers a number of paid research and internship opportunities, available both on and off campus:

Hixon Center-Ecologic Institute Summer Internship Program

This is a new partnership between the Hixon Center and the Ecologic Institute in Berlin to provide students the opportunity to intern abroad with an international environmental think-tank.

Hixon Summer Research Fellowships

Each year, the Hixon Center provides up to three summer research fellowships to students interested in performing research in environmental sustainability fields. These students, aptly referred to as Hixon Fellows, have the opportunity to directly engage in the Center’s research projects. These projects may also entail opportunities for students to work with other organizations or companies.

Rasmussen Summer Research Fund

The Rasmussen Fund supports student and faculty research in the area of environmental sustainability. The Fund is dedicated to supporting science-based inquiry into a broad range of environmental issues in the form of either faculty or student research proposals. Projects are funded through the summer, and recipients will present their findings upon return to campus in the fall.

Energize Colleges Program

In partnership with the Roberts Environmental Center at Claremont McKenna College, the Hixon Center is a participant in Energize Colleges. The program supports colleges and universities to prepare leaders in the new energy economy. The goal of the program is to develop students’ knowledge, skills and experience to effectively evaluate energy career options and transition into the green workforce.

REU in Data Science at Harvey Mudd College

HMC has received a 3-year National Science Foundation (NSF) grant for a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Data Science. The program hosts up to 9 students for 10 weeks during the summer to work on data science research projects with applications in the environmental, biology & life science, and industrial fields.
