Hixon Center Bids Farewell to Sustainability Program Manager

The Hixon Center is saying goodbye to Louis Spanias, Sustainability Program Manager, after three years at Harvey Mudd College.

Spanias, who joined the Hixon Center in March 2016, is joining the Energy and Sustainability Team at Cumming Corporation, a project management and cost consulting firm headquartered in Downtown Los Angeles, as Assistant Sustainability Project Manager.

In the past three years Spanias, alongside Hixon Center director Tanja Srebotnjak, has been committed to developing and growing the programs of the Hixon Center for Sustainable Environmental Design. Among Spanias’ many contributions has been supporting the Center’s Biennial Conference for Sustainable Design and Solutions, the Black, Gold and Green Speaker Series, and the College’s composting program. Spanias also launched the fall Eco-Engage Workshop Series, played a major role in the College’s first Bronze certification by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), and co-supervised the Energize Colleges internship program that has supported more than 25 paid internships for Claremont Colleges students and partnered with several on- and off-campus organizations in the last three years.

Louis Spanias has served as the sustainability program manager at Harvey Mudd College since March 2016.

He has also represented the Hixon Center and Harvey Mudd College at multiple sustainability conferences, including the annual AASHE Conference and the Symposium on Sustainability in University Campuses in Florence, Italy this past year.

In addition, Spanias provided administrative support to several of the Hixon Center’s curricular and research programs, including the Emphasis in Environmental Analysis, the Rasmussen Summer Research Fund, and the Hixon Summer Research Fellowship program. He is┬áhas authored over 40 pieces for the Hixon Center Blog.
