Student Recognition and Awards  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Riggs Fellows have successfully competed in several competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IISE Paper Competition (2022)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the technical paper competition at the West Coast Industrial and System Engineering (IISE) Conference held through Zoom, Liam Chalk \u201823, Nick Zemtzov \u201923, Sam Marquez \u201822, and Sidney Taylor \u201923 won first place. As the first-place winner, the team represented the region in the Undergraduate Technical Paper Competition Global Finals at the IISE Annual Conference & Expo in Seattle, Washington and won the third place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IISE Paper Competition (2021)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the technical paper competition at the West Coast Industrial and System Engineering (IISE) Conference held through Zoom, Halie Kim \u201822, Caitlin Huang \u201822, Nick Zemtzov \u201923 and Melody Chang SCR \u201922 won second place for their technical paper they wrote about supply chain optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Case Competition (2019)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Las Vegas, at the Association of Supply Chain Management (ASCM) International Conference, Bohan Gao \u201919, Charles Dawson \u201919, Lydia Sylla \u201919, and Ryan Haughton \u201919 became the first HMC team to place first in the finals at the Global Case Competition sponsored by ASCM (previously APICS) and Deloitte Consulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HMC team, after competing in four rounds, rose to the top of a field of 277 teams\u2014representing 140 schools and 26 countries\u2014each tackling a challenging business case from Deloitte\u2019s supply chain practice. Our team competed against many MBA and Supply Chain Master\u2019s programs and won.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Case Competition (2018)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Chicago, at the APICS International Conference, Bohan Gao \u201819, Anjaneya Malpani \u201818, Ramita Kondepudi \u201818, and Peter Leung \u201918 (Pitzer) won third place in the finals at the Global Case Competition sponsored by APICS and Deloitte Consulting. The team competed against 200 undergraduate and graduate-level teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Coast Case Competition (2017)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2017, in San Diego, the Harvey Mudd team of Alexa Le \u201817, Joe Sinopoli \u201817, Shaan Gareeb \u201917, and Katherine (Yoo Jeong) Shim \u201817 won first place in the undergraduate division as well as the overall Grand Prize during the case competition sponsored by APICS. They competed against 23 undergraduate and graduate teams from 17 universities\/colleges and three countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students that take E182: MPE, E183: MTE and participate in the Riggs Fellowship gain solid knowledge and effective skills to compete in these global competitions successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovation Award (2019)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 2018, Riggs Fellows Charles Dawson \u201919, Ryan Haughton \u201919 and Lydia Sylla \u201919 embarked on a 10-week project to modernize manufacturing operations at Laguna Clay, a Los Angeles ceramic supply business. The owners of the 43-year-old company hoped to reduce clutter, streamline material handling, redesign assembly processes, and improve efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project\u2019s success led to recognition by the Manufacturers\u2019 Council of the Inland Empire, which presented the students with the 2019 Innovation by Students award at the annual Manufacturers\u2019 Summit Feb. 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovation Award (2018)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purosil LLC, a silicone hose manufacturer in Corona, California, was losing revenue and customers on their formed hose product line. In an effort to change course, the company reached out to the Riggs fellowship. Within a year, the Riggs team helped Purosil employees implement a new way of manufacturing that increased production and efficiency and boosted revenue by $1.6 million annually ($3.1 million if the October 2017 results are included).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students, Ankoor Apte, Bohan Gao, Giulia Castleberg and Rachel Perley, won the Manufacturer\u2019s Council of the Inland Empire Innovation Award for their work at Purosil. The award was presented in February at the MCIE\u2019s 2018 Manufacturers\u2019 Summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
