The following programs would benefit from faculty participation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gateway to Exploring Mathematical Sciences (<a href=\"https:\/\/colleges.claremont.edu\/ccms\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/colleges.claremont.edu\/ccms\/\">GEMS<\/a>):<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A once-monthly Saturday workshop that engages 8th\u201310th grade students in hands-on mathematics and science learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GEMS is designed to expand access to STEM by connecting students, families, and educators from surrounding communities with faculty, students, and alumni across the Claremont Colleges. Workshops highlight real-world applications of math and science in ways that spark curiosity and support students\u2019 developing interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty and staff are invited to facilitate a GEMS session. Your participation helps foster meaningful connections, support student pathways into STEM, and contribute to a collaborative, community-based learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would like to facilitate a GEMS session please contact us, <a href=\"mailto:&#103;e&#109;&#115;&#64;hmc.ed&#117;\">g&#101;&#109;&#115;&#64;h&#109;c&#46;edu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacredsistahsinc.org\/steam-conference.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.sacredsistahsinc.org\/steam-conference.html\">Sacred SISTAHS<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An annual conference for African American girls (ages 12\u201318) that centers mentorship, representation, and access in STEM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through speakers, shared experiences, and community dialogue, participants engage with African American women whose work and lived experiences inform their paths in math, science, and technology. The conference creates space for connection, inspiration, and exploration of future STEM pathways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty and staff are invited to facilitate a workshop, give a keynote, and join the planning team. Each week, teams of volunteers teach hands-on lessons\u2014ranging from electrical circuits to archaeology\u2014to 4th and 5th graders at local elementary schools. Science Bus also hosts an annual Science Day at Harvey Mudd College, where students participate in more complex lessons and occasional explosive demonstrations. Volunteers write and test all curriculum, then teach classes of 25\u201330 students, sharing their passion for science through fun, integrative experiments.
