This page is intended to help you prepare for your appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where to Find Notary Services<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Notary services are commonly available at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Local banks and credit unions (may be free for account holders)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UPS Store locations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Postal\/shipping centers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private notary offices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some law offices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend contacting the provider in advance to confirm:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Appointment requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accepted forms of identification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether your specific document can be notarized<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before Your Appointment: Important Information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A Notary Public <strong>cannot provide legal advice<\/strong> or determine which type of notarial act is required for your document. It is your responsibility to arrive knowing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What document needs to be notarized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether the document requires an <strong>Acknowledgment<\/strong> or a <strong>Jurat<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please review your document carefully before your appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common Notarial Acts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acknowledgment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The document may already be signed. The notary confirms that you acknowledge signing the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jurat<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The document <strong>must be signed in the presence of the notary<\/strong>, and you will swear or affirm that the contents are true and accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to Bring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Please bring <strong>all<\/strong> of the following to your appointment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Yourself<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An acceptable form of identification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The document to be notarized, along with any related forms required for that document<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acceptable Forms of Identification<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>State-issued driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>State-issued identification card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U.S. passport (issued by the U.S. Department of State)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U.S. military ID<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>State, county, or local government ID<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Permanent Resident Card (\u201cGreen Card\u201d) issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foreign passport<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Driver\u2019s license officially issued in Mexico or Canada<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identification deemed acceptable by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-mudd-highlighted-content\">If you do not have an acceptable form of identification, you must bring a credible witness who does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Copy Certification by Document Custodian (Important)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Notaries in California <strong>cannot notarize copies<\/strong> of documents. However, a <strong>Copy Certification by Document Custodian<\/strong> may be notarized instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to certify a copy (for example, a student visa or ID):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bring the <strong>copy<\/strong> and a completed <strong>Document Custodian letter<\/strong>, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email the letter in advance so it can be printed for your appointment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This notarial act is completed as a <strong>Jurat<\/strong>, and the letter <strong>must be signed in the presence of the notary<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sample Language: Copy Certification by Document Custodian<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong><br><strong>RE:<\/strong> Copy Certification by Document Custodian for <em>[Name of Document]<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I, <em>[Your Name]<\/em>, attest to the accuracy of the attached copy of <em>[Name of Document]<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Printed Name<br>Signature <em>(signed in the presence of the notary)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-mudd-highlighted-content\">If you have questions about campus services, please contact the Division of Student Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At this time, the Division of Student Affairs does not offer on-campus Notary Public services.
