{"id":2553,"date":"2025-11-19T13:28:47","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T21:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/?page_id=2553"},"modified":"2025-11-20T10:12:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T18:12:10","slug":"facts-box","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/wordpress-how-tos\/facts-box\/","title":{"rendered":"WordPress: Facts Box"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Facts Box is a custom block developed by the Office of Communications and Marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This block is use to present a collection of facts or stats about an office, department or other program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Availability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This block is only available on the Primary Page and Default page templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Elements of the Block<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Facts Box has the following editor-defined elements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>heading for the block (required)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>introductory copy (optional)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the facts\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>minimum of three, maximum of nine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>optional: one or more call-to-action buttons\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>support for video player pop-up if a YouTube link is configured on the button(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/facts-box-features-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2556\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/facts-box-features-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/facts-box-features-1-300x159.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/facts-box-features-1-1024x543.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/facts-box-features-1-768x407.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Customizable elements of the Facts Box block<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adding a Facts Box Block<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>With your cursor in the editor in the desired block position, type&nbsp;<kbd>\/<\/kbd>&nbsp;to open the block selector<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start typing the word \u201cfact\u201d and after a few characters the chooser will filter the other blocks, leaving the Facts Box as the only option; select it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring the Facts Box Block<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The heading, any introductory copy and the facts themselves are all added to the block in the main edit area. Heading<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter the facts box heading. Keep it short and to the point; there is room to elaborate in the copy area<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Introductory Copy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Provide some background to introduce the facts. Regular paragraphs are the only blocks available in this area. Note: bold, italics, links and phone formatting are not availabe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. The Facts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two parts to each fact: the fact or stat and a short description.  For optimal impact, the fact or stat should be a number of single work (maybe two). The description should be as short as possible; avoid lengthy sentences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Add More Facts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To add more facts, hit the large <kbd>+<\/kbd> button below and to the right of the facts. The maximum number of facts is nine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-mudd-highlighted-content\">If there are fewer than three facts, the entire box will not be visible on the front end. This is intentional. If you don&#8217;t have at least three facts then this block isn&#8217;t for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Call-to-Action Button(s)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To add a call-to-action button, select the <kbd>+<\/kbd> underneath the facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/communications\/wordpress-how-tos\/buttons\/\">WordPress: Buttons<\/a> for guidance on how to configure buttons. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Facts Box is a custom block developed by the Office of Communications and Marketing.
