Because this is difficult to observe directly, scientists may instead wire insect and host into low-current circuits in order to measure the insect’s feeding behaviors based on minute variations in electrical activity that occur during feeding, a technique called electropenetrography (EPG). In this project, we worked with scientists from Auburn University and the USDA to build a novel software pipeline to address the specific needs of EPG users. In particular, we prioritize 1) supporting users during data collection and 2) facilitating efficient analysis of existing EPG data. This work will assist researchers studying insects important in agricultural pest management (e.g., aphids) and disease transmission in animals (e.g., ticks and mosquitos).

Auburn University/USDA Computer Science/Mathematics, 2023–24 Liaison(s): Dr. Elaine Backus P19, Katie Gruenhagen ’19, Dr. Kathryn Reif Advisor(s): Katherine Breeden Students(s): […]

[140,185
712
post-14041","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-computer-science","category-mathematics","tag-auburn-university-usda
["GET
