Vidyo is a video conferencing system similar to Skype and Google Hangouts, but with much higher video quality. Vidyo is a hosted service that CIS has purchased through IDSolutions, an Internet 2 NET+ partner. The service provides us with one “virtual meeting room” which can hold up to five free remote callers. Additional remote callers can participate, but we will be charged an additional 10 cents per minute per caller for the meeting. The meeting room allows participants to view and hear each other and also share screens. Users do not need an account, but will be required to download the VidyoDesktop client software. Clients are available for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, as well as many mobile devices.
Vidyo can be used to bring an outside lecturer into a class or for off campus interviews and meetings.
Available to faculty, students, and staff at HMC.
How to Access the Service
Since we currently have only one virtual meeting room, you will need to reserve the room by sending an email to the CIS Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please send in your request at least 48 hours in advance so that we can provide training and documentation and install the VidyoDesktop client software for you. We will also need the email addresses of all of the remote callers that you will be inviting to participate in the video conference call so that we can send them an invitation and instructions.
